So far... in India

Dear friends,

I arrived in India at the end of December and it has been such a crazy, amazing and out of the ordinary experience. Too much fun, too much to do and all non-stop. Good fun!

Let me summarize what I have done so far:
December 27: Arrived in Delhi at night time after a direct 14 hours Continental flight  and upgrading to Business First. --The best way to use air miles is to upgrade to first or business when traveling long distance-- Continental now offers flat beds on their business class and it was so great I did that because I slept almost my entire flight and arrived in Delhi ready to party!
Had an amazing welcoming dinner hosted by Gauri & Nainika, my two new sisters.

December 28:  Went to a very dear friend's birthday party and birthday dinner the the following night. Met lots of fun and loving people. Ate so much because the food was too good to say no to.

Note: New Delhi at the end of December and all of January is freezing. Please make sure, if coming to India during these months, to bring enough warm clothes. It is actually more cold inside the house than outside.

December 30:  headed to GOA. YAY!!!!--- Goa is the place to be to end the year and to start the new. Warm weather, shorts, bikini, sandals, beach shacks, amazing food and the best place to party!!
Places visited: Beach shacks, chocolatti, the park hotel bar, UV bar, Shanti, A Reverie, Fiesta, Thalassa, Bomras, Travel Bar, Blue Waves, Goa Saturday Market, Calamari Shack, Grocery shopping at Newton's, Club Cabana, curlies, La Plage, and many more.
Too much fun. A must go place for anyone visiting India during winter.

January 9: Return to Delhi on the latest possible flight out of GOA. A place that you would never want to leave.

Note: I have found that the best website to find internal flights is ixigo.com
In Goa, you can find motorcycles and scooters for rent. Prices are really high at the end of December and the few first days in January. After the 3rd of Jan we managed to rent a car for 800 rupees per day.  :) (vehicles are stick shift)

Expect moving a lot from one area to another. You may be having dinner in Calangute bur partying in Morjim.

Now, back in Delhi... went out to the opening of a French restaurant and passed by Blue Frog Delhi for Papon's show. Ended the night at an after party at a friend's place.

January 14: Woke up with a little cold, had warm soup and a nice lunch: home made pav bhaji. Moving this weekend to Hauz Khas Village (Will be posting soon about the place).
Tonight will be heading to Blue Frog to see Midival Punditz' live concert. Midival Punditz can be followed on Facebook at  https://www.facebook.com/midivalpunditz
They are the number one India electronic music band and they are amazing. They recently played in New York with Alicia Keys, Karsh Kale, Norah Jones, Usher and Will.I.am.

Well, my friends, logging off for now and  will be posting new things soon.
Tomorrow I will be going to Anoushka Shankar's concert.
Will post pictures soon of the Midival Punditz' concert and Anoushka Shankar's concert.
By the way... Yoko Ono's first art show in India is currently taking place at the Vadehra Art Gallery in Delhi. Will try to swing by to see her art.

Hasta luego!

Introduction

Welcome to 'blogging my way through India'!

It is currently 10:45 pm and I am in the Dominican Republic and extremely excited about moving to New Delhi in 11 days. So excited that I can’t stop thinking about what will I do, what will I eat, how much I am craving dosas, idlis and biryani and how amazing it would be to document all the new things that I will be learning by living there for a long period of time.  This is how the idea of this blog started a few minutes ago.

To begin let me tell you a little bit about myself; I am a 29 year old girl (yes, I call myself a girl as I feel like I’m 18 instead of 29 – still with the same enthusiasm about life and learning as I had then), born and raised in the Dominican Republic, did my undergraduate studies in Florida and my masters in New York. I have worked for international organizations and have travelled a lot. I also had the opportunity to live in Mumbai for a few months in 2008 -- therefore my fascination with this country. Even though my professional background is in International Affairs, I, however, will try not to write about politics, economics and human struggles. Instead, I am hoping to share happy and fun curiosities about India each day as I experience them.

This blog will be about this new adventure and I hope you enjoy it, share it and learn a lot about this amazing country through my experiences.
